This site is designed
to help the beginner learn some basic skills in the art of
tattooing or piercing which will help the beginner get a start on
a professional career. Also, this site was built to help the
professional meet continuing education requirements set forth by
the tattooing and piercing enforcement codes in their State.
Our Mission
My professional career
started in 1976, at which time I apprenticed for 18 months, in a
professional tattoo studio. Even after my apprenticeship had ended, I felt
like there was still more that I could learn. However, at that time, there
were no resources available. A lot has changed in the past 29 years. There
are now books on tattooing (some poorly done, these I refer to as "Scratcher
Bibles"), videos, some good, some bad, and most conventions offer
seminars for the professional tattooist. But, for the most part there are
not many reliable resources for the beginning tattooist.
During my professional
career I have come across a lot of people with the desire to learn how to
tattoo. Because of circumstances beyond their control, i.e., family
obligations, lack of funds, lack of time, or lack of qualified
professional trainers, they have been unable to achieve their goal of
learning how to tattoo.
On the flip side of that
coin, you have the individual who goes out and buys a "kit" from
a tattoo supplier, without the slightest idea of what they are doing.
Consequently, they end up damaging themselves and their friends by trying
to perform an art they have no idea how to perform correctly.
The above mentioned
groups of people eventually become frustrated and the art of tattooing
loses potential artists who may possibly have contributed something to the
art.
Our goal is to assist the
individual with a desire to become a tattoo artist with the means and the
educational tools to learn some of the basic skills to become a safe and
productive tattoo artist. A typical apprenticeship in a professional
studio can run from $2,000.00 to $5,000.00, for six months to a years
apprenticeship. Besides the cost, there is also the time involved. Our
program will cost approximately 10% of the high end of a formal
apprenticeship program. Plus, our program allows the individual to study
at their own pace, in their free time, while allowing for an affordable
educational resource.
Our program is set up into
separate course instructions for most areas of tattooing and piercing. The
only thing we cannot offer is hands-on clinical and practical expertise.
Let me reiterate here that there is no substitution for a formal
apprenticeship program and wherever possible, the individual with a desire
to truly learn the art of tattooing or piercing should seek out a formal
apprenticeship at a licensed studio, with a qualified artist.
You can choose to take each course
separately, or to sign up for the entire course. If you just need some
help in a few areas, then by all means take the individual courses. But,
if you are just starting out, and do not have a clue as to what you are
doing, you should think about
taking the entire course to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
The courses are offered on
interactive CD ROM and each course will give you a certain amount of
credit hours. At the end of each course, you will
receive a certificate of completion.
The program is set up so that the
novice tattooist can glean a better understanding of the art and to earn
some credit hours for educational merits (which are required by some
states for licensing). We also designed the program so that the
professional artist could earn some of their credit hours for continuing
education. Example: The State of Kansas requires licensed artists to have
15 hours of continuing education every three years. The State of Kansas
accepts six credit hours of self study towards total credit hours. Just
one course of this program would fulfill those credit hours.
